Strengthening Inclusive Belonging

Belonging is not a luxury – it is a fundamental human need and a cornerstone of learning, wellbeing, and personal growth.

Drawing on evidence-based strategies and frameworks, we explore practical approaches to strengthen belonging, focussing especially on neurodivergent children, new migrants, and other vulnerable groups.

Course Structure:

This expertly designed course offers three dynamic, coached sessions to build deep knowledge and practical competency in growing a sense of belonging.

Session 1: What is belonging? What factors can erode belonging?

Take a deep dive into belonging, what is means and how it is expressed in a school community. Examine factors that can erode belonging, and begin to explore ways of addressing culture, including empowering the voice of children.
Session 2: Fifty ways to improve belonging

Explore a wide range of solutions and approaches, including use of an audit tool, and begin to select solutions that will have a tangible impact on belonging in your school community.
Session 3: CELEBRATE PROGRESS, SHARE EMERGING PRACTICE

An opportunity to share a journey travelled, share effective practice with other participants, and frame next steps

Course outcomes

  • Explain what belonging means in a school setting and why it underpins learning, wellbeing and engagement.
  • Recognise the social, emotional and structural factors—including pupil voice—that influence a child’s sense of belonging.
  • Apply relational, trauma‑informed and neuroinclusive strategies to strengthen inclusion and reduce barriers.
  • Evaluate and improve school practices and policies to align with evidence‑based approaches and Ofsted’s achieve, belong, thrive
