Severely burnt in a car accident at 18, James writes of his battle to live confidently in our face-perfect society

Severely burnt in a car accident at 18, James writes of his battle to live confidently in our face-perfect society and how he turned the lessons he learned into practical empowerment for others.

James wrote his first book ‘Changing Faces: the Challenge of Facial Disfigurement’ in 1990. Two years later he launched Changing Faces: a charity supporting and representing children and adults with disfigurements.  Since then he has launched Face Equality International, an alliance of 35 charities, aiming to put the issues people with disfigurements face on the UN agenda.

In “Face It”, his second book, James shares how he found a way to live happily with his distinctive face in our face-perfect society; how he turned the lessons he learned into practical empowerment for others with facial disfigurements; and launched the global campaign for face equality for everyone, whatever their face looks like.
