While you suffer miserably with it, nobody else can see how it’s getting to you and you’re often not taken seriously. In some cases, you’re not even believed at all.
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease, in 2015. Over the time I have learned to deal with the snide comments and rude looks that come from living with an incurable, invisible illness.
But just because I’ve learned how to handle it, doesn’t make it any easier.
