Job summary

Summery description; Assist with the preparation, installation, finishing and packing of computers systems and related software packages and additional peripherals ready for dispatch to customers.


Responsibilities Include, Install the OS and related customer software to already built desktop, laptop, and Apple Mac machines to a very high standard.  Build PC desktop machines, perform upgrades to both PC Desktops, laptops, and Apple Mac machines.  Produce professional discs with the CD duplication machine.

Ensure final quality control and back-up systems installation.  Unpack safely and correctly the computer system onto Production bench ready for system and software installation. Report any damages to Production Team Leader and Stores personnel.  Make hardware adjustments to computer systems as required by orders.

Bench Operation – Maintain a fully working carousel of 10 computer systems and complete the full installation process in accordance with Departmental procedures. Ensure correct installation of operating system and specialised software.  Finishing Bench – Fully test each computer system in accordance with departmental Finishing Procedures. Re-pack computer system ensuring correct and adequate packaging is used to safeguard against damage in transit. Ensure complete compliance to H&S and ISO standards. The job role is not limited to this job description and from time to time the job holder will be required to assist in other duties within the department.

This role will be based at the head office Microlink Pc in Chandlers Ford.

Essential Skills

High level of concentration and attention to detail is essential.  Must be able to work under their own initiative and organise their workload effectively. Attentive to detail.  Basic computer hardware and software knowledge is essential.

An online, accessible tool for screening strengths and challenges, providing a detailed report with solutions to optimize a person’s support.

A 1:1 Counselling session (1hr) with a Psychologist, reviewing the results of the Screening, initial career counselling, goal setting for the 6-month employment, positive assessment report to refer to, including any specific management requirements, for example, disability support.

6x 2.5hrs Skills for the Workplace Workshops (1 per month). Designed by Psychologists and run by qualified Coaches. To include a workbook of exercises to completely cover individual and team performance, managing conflict, and communication. Will be adapted to fit the challenges identified for each cohort as per the initial screening, e.g., in literacy, numeracy, communication.

A 1:1 Outplacement counselling session (1hr) with a Psychologist at 4 months, to support and focus on career counselling and aiding the individual move into the next employment or enhance skills for remaining in the same role.

3x Participants Survey. One at the beginning, one at 3 months, and one at the end of the 6 months. Designed by psychologists. Anonymized to encourage honest reflections. Positive and future-focused to provide learning. Summarised into an executive report.  Support for mental health and wellbeing.  An ISL certificate will be issued upon completion.

Each kickstarter will have a mentor for the 6-month placement.  Equipment will be provided and any specialised equipment to assist the kickstarter if they have a disability.
