Have your say: Take the National Strategy for Disabled People’s latest Survey

The Disability Unit at the Cabinet Office is developing a National Strategy for Disabled People. This is a rare opportunity to have your say as a disabled person or as an ally. The Strategy will help to transform British Society by improving opportunities and outcomes for disabled people.

It will be built on:

  • improved data and evidence
  • engagement with disabled people
  • insight from lived experiences

A key focus will be on practical action that will make a tangible difference to disabled people’s day-to-day lives.

What will this mean for disabled people?

This will be the first disability strategy since 2011 and is a valuable opportunity to forge a fresh approach to disability policy that unleashes the social and economic potential of disabled people.

The Strategy will make practical changes to policies that strengthen disabled people’s ability to participate fully in society and place fairness at the heart of government work on disability to level up the opportunity to reach their potential and participate in life in this country.

The Survey places the lived experiences of disabled people at the centre of the approach gathering views from people across the country, including those caring for and related to disabled people and the general public. This will help the government understand the barriers that disabled people face and what it may need to focus upon to improve the lives of disabled people.

At the end of the Survey, there is an opportunity to share how Covid-19 pandemic has impacted your life.

Everything you need to know about completing the Survey

Here’s the link to the Survey https://disabilityunit.citizenspace.com/ and will be open until 23 April 2021. Responses received before 13 February 2021 will inform the development of the National Strategy, while those received after this date will be used to inform its delivery.

The Survey should take you around 20 to 30 minutes to complete and can be saved as you progress. You will be routed through the questionnaire based on the answers you provide.

The Survey is fully accessible to ensure as many people as possible have their voices heard. It is available in Easy Read, BSL and written responses can be sent to: DUCitizenspace@cabinetoffice.gov.uk.

A braille version is available on request, and blind or partially sighted people who are having difficulty filling in the online Survey can email RNIB for advice or support at: campaigns@rnib.org.uk
