About Disabled Students Allowance

What is the Disabled Students Allowance?

The Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) provides extra financial support for students that have a disability or learning difficulty, such as dyslexia. DSA grants are made available to all full-time and part-time UK national students who have been diagnosed as eligible for assistive technology. This financial support is not based on income or other student finance deals. The DSA funding is based purely on the individual's level of need for assistive technology.

How are Microlink involved?

Microlink have been involved with the DSA since 1992.  We have set the bar for standard operating procedures, such as VAT relief and on site installations. We have made it our business to understand a student's needs regardless of their disability.

Microlink is an accredited member of the Disabled Students Allowance Quality Assurance Group (DSA-QAG), and is dedicated to the requirements of the Suppliers Service Level Agreement. The DSA-QAG measures the quality of work from organisations conducting DSA needs assessments and supplying recommended DSA equipment in England and Wales.

How does the DSA affect me?

Though many people feel that they are unaffected by a disability, increased testing for learning difficulties such as dyslexia has revealed that are far higher proportion of the population are suffering from a disability. Thus, recognising the need is an important step in obtaining independence. Speak to your Secondary School or College about diagnostic assessments.
